Hi, I'm Meagan Fisher, a designer living in Brooklyn. I make websites, eat food & love owls.

Moving, and Other Exciting Life News

Two weeks ago, Jason and I went to Boston to find a place to live there. We failed, in the sense that we didn’t find a place to live in Boston. Instead, we found an amazing home in Salem, MA, which it turns out is so much better than Boston in so many ways.

92 Bridge Street

I love the sleepy, small-town feeling of Salem. I love the gothy people and the wiccan supplies shops. I love that it has a ferry and a commuter rail that goes straight into Boston. I love that I can afford my rent there. But what I love most about Salem is the fact that it is home to so many talented web designers and developers. While we visited Salem, I had the pleasure of meeting one of them.

Dan Cederholm has been one of my top design heroes ever since my friend (and then boss of sorts) Erik Hersman introduced me to his work several years ago. When I found out that he was hiring an assistant, I pleaded with a mutual friend of ours Dan Benjamin to drop my name. Because I couldn’t think of too much better than getting to work with yet another well-respected, talented Dan in this industry. (Sidenote: Does anyone know if Dan Rubin needs, like, a friend or something?). So, Mr. Benjamin made the call / ping / email, and wheels were set in motion. (Thanks Dan B., I owe you one!)

Dan works in a great little office in downtown Salem, above a fantastic coffee shop. Getting to see the place where magic such as Foamee, Cork’d and The Markup & Style Handbook were made was very cool.

So, in just a few short weeks I will be a new resident of that beautiful witchy little town up north, and just a couple months later will be a part-time assistant, aiding Mr. Cederholm in taking over the world. And I seriously can’t wait.

+1 for naming and linking to 3 Dan’s in a single paragraph :) Congrats on the near-future work with Dan C., and the move to Salem (Salem > Orlando, and probably the rest of Florida, too).

Now, I know I can be a hermit sometimes, but do I really seem to be in need of a friend? (kidding!) I’d love to have you work on some projects in the future though, if Dan C. will allow it… drop me a line and let’s talk :)

Holy rediculous networking, batman! As I come from Columbia, SC.. I completely understand the woes of living in the south. Any chance you guys need an assistant’s assistant? ;)

The smilys in the comments area have their own ‘wp-smiley’ class, so you can avoid the background graphics there if you want to. Just a friendly tip, if you didn’t already know it ;)

Welcome to the neighborhood. Seems like the north shore is breeding quite a group.

I say we all move to Salem.

When you move up to Head Honcho Assistant, let me know. I’ll move in under you, lose my South Florida tan and regain my social skills.

I love the perception of depth in your design!

I don’t usually fanboy but I just love your work. The color schemes are so organic and the visual composition invites interaction. Just lovely. Congrats on the gig.
